Jean Lupien
Natif de Montréal, Jean Lupien a toujours apprécié l’art abstrait. En 1995, il est hospitalisé pour une dépression sévère à l’hôpital Notre-Dame, où, il est initié pour la première fois à la peinture via leur programme d’art-thérapie. Il découvre alors les opportunités que peuvent lui apporter cette forme d’expression.
En 2005, il fait la rencontre de Jean Beausoleil, qui, après quelques échanges, le prend sous son aile, et lui fait découvrir les différentes avenues qui l’ont aidé à développer son propre style. Intéressé par la sérigraphie et l’art abstrait, Jean Lupien est grandement influencé par la visite de l’atelier de Serge Lemoyne (artiste Québecois).
Entre 2005-07, il expose trois fois à l’atelier de Jean Beausoleil. Il apprend également à parfaire l’emploi des couleurs, lumières et techniques essentielles au Centre Saidye Bronfman. Prolifique d’une trentaine de tableaux, il tient sa première exposition solo au Chat des Artistes, et une suivante à l’Hôpital Notre-Dame, organisée dans le cadre d’un projet employé-artiste.
Parmi ses inspirations, les différents courants artistiques des années 50-60, l’automatisme, l’art lyrique, abstrait, avant-garde russe ainsi que la danse contemporaine, pour ne nommer qu’eux, continuent à marquer son esprit.
Jean Lupien valorise le moment présent, ce qu’il retrouve dans la connexion animale, auprès de ses chiens Biko, Eno & Sky. L’itinérance est aussi un thème qui le touche énormément et le rapproche de l’humilité. Ses oeuvres sont une expression de l’influence de son environnement Montréalais par ses combinaisons spécifiques de mouvement et couleur.
Born in Montreal, Jean Lupien was touched by abstract art throughout his life. In 1995, he was hospitalized for a severe depression at Notre-Dame Hospital, where, for the first time he was introduced to painting through the art therapy program. He then discovered the opportunities this form of expression could bring him.
In 2005, he met Jean Beausoleil who, after a few exchanges, took him under his wing and made him discover the different avenues that would help him develop his own style. Interested in silk-screening and abstract art, Mr. Lupien is greatly influenced by a visit to Serge Lemoyne's workshop.
Between 2005-07, Mr. Lupien exhibited three times at Jean Beausoleil's studio. He also learns to perfect the use of colors, light and essential techniques at the Saidye Bronfman Center. Prolific of about thirty paintings, he held his first solo exhibition at the Chat des Artistes, and a subsequent one at the Hôpital Notre-Dame, organized as part of an employee-artist project.
Among his inspirations, the different artistic currents of the 50's and 60's, Automatism, lyrical art, abstract art, Russian avant-garde as well as contemporary dance, to name a few, continue to mark his mind.
Living in the moment is an important value for Jean Lupien and is most often found in animal connexion with his dogs Biko, Eno & Sky. Roaming is also a theme that touches him greatly and brings him closer to humility. His works are an expression of the influence of his Montreal environment through his specific combination of movement and color.
